Hardy Tradescantia are useful border plants with unusual 3-petalled flowers produced over a long period, nestled amongst long, sword-shaped evergreen leaves. These versatile clump-forming perennials are unfussy about soil and grow well in sun or in part shade. Tradescantia ‘Little Doll’ is a particularly compact cultivar ideal for the front of the border, with abundant soft blue-purple blooms with contrasting yellow stamens borne amongst a neat mound of foliage from late summer into autumn. Looks fabulous planted with day lilies (Hemerocallis). Height: 30cm (12in). Spread: 45cm (18in).
Grow hardy Tradescantia in moist but well-drained, fertile soil in sun or part shade. Cut back spent flower stems to stimulate reblooming and fresh new growth.
