Phormium Rainbow Queen

Phormium ‘Rainbow Queen’ is a rich bronze-green coloured specimen with a rosy edge and a sliver of cream to add more contrast. In the summer there are red tubular flowers which appear followed by robust seed-heads. No matter where these are planted, they will always become a focal point and create a dramatic and architectural display. Ideal in borders, beds and patio containers, they also look great when offset with gravel as this really draws the eye to the contrasting, architectural plant. It will appreciate full sun and at times some shade, and in the winter will need protecting for cold, harsh winds. If planted in containers simply move the pots to a more sheltered and protected area. Height 1m (39”) and spread 1.5m (59”). Phormiums are well suited to mild coastal locations and can cope in poorer soils, but do enjoy a fertile soil – so it is well worth incorporating some well-rotted manure into the soil when planting.
