Lavender ‘Sensational’

Very large blooms accompanied by compact foliage make this lavender truly ‘Sensational’. This improved version of English Lavender bears unusually large, thick flower spikes up to 11cm long, creating intense swathes of colour. The deep purple, intensely fragrant flowers are held on thick stems above tight mounds of silver foliage. With stiffer, thicker stems than other varieties, Lavender ‘Sensational’ is very weather resistant and excellent for cutting and drying. Flowering from summer through to autumn, it is a perfect addition to a sunny front-of-the-border spot, as a low hedge to line path edges or planted in patio containers. The aromatic, silver foliage provides interest and brightness throughout the year whilst the flowers offer a treat for all the senses and provide food for beneficial pollinators. Enjoy its heady fragrance outdoors and cut some stems to bring its relaxing perfume indoors as well. Drought tolerant once established. Height and spread: 60cm (24in).

Lavenders dislike wet ground, particularly during winter. Improve heavy soil conditions by adding coarse grit or sharp sand prior to planting. When growing English lavender in large patio containers, use a well drained soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. After planting, prune lavender plants to encourage bushy growth.
