Developed by the prestigious Hillier Nurseries and launched at Chelsea Plant of the Year 2023, this new variety boasts exceptional hardiness, foliage colour and cutting potential. A prolific flowerer, Lavandula ‘Exceptional’ holds large white flowers on strong, erect stems above shimmering silver foliage. The silver foliage retains its beautiful colour throughout the year, providing a continuously bright feature in the dull winter landscape. With long, strong stems, it’s ideal for cutting, so you can enjoy its heady fragrance indoors as well as out. Easy to grow and drought tolerant, Lavandula ‘Exceptional’ is wonderful for edging borders, or growing as a low hedge. Alternatively, plant it in a sunny patio container – it won’t require much watering and you’ll be able to immerse in its relaxing aroma close to seating. Height and spread: 80cm (31in).

Grow English lavender plants on free draining soil in full sun. Lavenders dislike wet ground, particularly during winter. Improve heavy soil conditions by adding coarse grit or sharp sand prior to planting. When growing English lavender in large patio containers, use a well drained soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. After planting, prune lavender plants to encourage bushy growth.
