Houttuynia Cordata

A charming ground cover perennial with aromatic, heart shaped foliage and mahogany red stems. Throughout summer, pristine white flowers sit atop each stem, contrasting elegantly with the dark green leaves. Houttuynia cordata has a vigorous, spreading habit that will quickly form a dense carpet where conditions are favourable. This hardy perennial is extremely versatile, thriving almost anywhere from thin, dry soils to the wet margins of ponds. Height: 30cm (12″). Spread: 100cm (39″). This hardy perennial is both moisture and drought tolerant, and thrives in almost any position from sun to dappled shade. Plant Houttuynia in any garden soil, or in the shallow margins of ponds with the crown to a depth of 10cm (4″) below water level. In favourable conditions, Houttuynia will spread freely, but can be easily contained if planted in containers.
