Helianthemum ‘Ben Hope’ is the ideal candidate for hot, dry sites. From late spring to midsummer, it is smothered in nectar-rich, cerise pink flowers studded with contrasting golden yellow centres. Height and Spread: 30cm (12”).
Rock Roses are low and spreading evergreen shrubs which thrive in challenging dry situations. They form neat humps of small, greyish-green, linear foliage which will spill over rockeries, steps or border edges providing cover and interest throughout the year. If clipped and shaped after flowering, they will keep their lovely hummocky shape and you may even be rewarded with a second flush of flowers later in the summer.
The nectar-rich flowers are a magnet for pollinating insects. Trouble-free and easy to grow, this variety is perfect for planting at the front of hot, dry borders and rockeries, and makes a useful addition to coastal gardens or as a drought-tolerant specimen for a container.
Plant rock roses into moderately fertile, neutral or alkaline soil, in full sun. Helianthemum dislike wet ground, particularly during winter. Improve heavy soil conditions by adding coarse grit or sharp sand prior to planting. Once established, rock roses can easily tolerate dry sandy soils.
