Creeping over paving, rockeries and gravel gardens, running along border edges or tumbling from a patio pot, Dianthus deltoides ‘Albus’ forms low mats of evergreen foliage that provide pleasingly tidy and low maintenance, weed-suppressing groundcover. In May, June and July these soft green cushions become studded with masses of starry white flowers that form a crisp contrast to the green foliage. This easy-care, long-flowering perennial is a superb performer in hot, dry sunny sites with poor soil. It also makes a rewarding, drought-tolerant choice for container growing. RHS Award of Garden Merit. Height and spread: 15-30cm (6-12in).
