Colourful Ornamental Grass Collection contains the following 5 varieties:
- Acorus gramineus ‘Ogon’ – Grown for its attractive foliage, this showy perennial is perfect for softening the edges of ponds with its aromatic, semi-evergreen leaves. The arching, yellow and green, variegated foliage forms wide fans with a low, clump-forming habit. Slender Sweet Flag enjoys a moist position in a bog garden or as a marginal aquatic at the water’s edge. Height: 25cm (10″). Spread: 35cm (14″). Planting depth: Zone 1 & 2 to 5cm depth.
- Carex ‘Frosted Curls’ – Forms low hummocks composed of fine, hair-like leaves, curled at their ends. The silvery green leaves cascade over border edges and winter containers providing all-year-round foliage interest. Ideal for low-maintenance groundcover in sun or partial shade. Height and Spread: 40cm (14in).
- Festuca glauca – An evergreen grass grown for its stiff, architectural blue foliage. From early summer, the foliage is complemented by short, blue-green flower spikes. Perfect for patio pots, rockeries, gravel gardens and borders, mixing nicely with perennials, alpines or even small shrubs. Remains nicely compact as it grows. Height and spread: 30cm (12″).
- Imperata ‘Red Baron’ (Imperata cylindrica ‘Rubra’) – An unusual and dramatic grass. The leaves are green at the base, with red tips that appear more intense as summer progresses into autumn, when they begin to shine like a jewel and light up the garden when it’s starting to look a little past its best. Height & Spread: 50cm (20”).
- Scirpus cernuus(Isolepsis cernua)slender club rush – This quirky grass has earned the fun moniker, ‘Fibre Optic Plant’, due to its unusual looks. Scripus cernuus is a UK native which forms low clumps of shooting foliage. In summer, each stem carries a silvery flower right at its tip, hence its nickname. Slender Club Rush is grown as a marginal pond plant or in a bog garden or trough. This non-invasive, aquatic/marginal grass is ideal for a wildlife pond where it will oxygenate the water whilst providing a useful habitat for dragonflies. Height and Spread: 30cm (12in).
