Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
Arundo donax ‘Variegata’ is a half-hardy perennial grass with variegated, green foliage and wide, pale margins. The Giant Reed’s exotic, upright stems stretch to an impressive 1.8m (5’11”) when fully grown, making it a dramatic addition to patio containers, well-watered pot plants and the backs of sunny borders. Planting Arundo donax var. versicolor outdoors will entail a little extra maintenance, for the plant should be transferred to a warmer, frost-free environment during the winter months. However, the height and architecture this grass brings to the garden will make it well worth the effort. Height: 1.8m (5’11”); Spread: 60cm (2’0″). Variegated forms of Arundo donax are less hardy than the species and require winter protection if intended for outdoor cultivation. Grow Giant reed plants in reliable moist, rich fertile soil. Choose a position in full sun with shelter from strong winds. Alternatively grow Arund plants in large containers in a frost free conservatory.
